It's easy to use the garbage disposal to rid our apartment of the ickiest things. Despite how our Orchard Crossing Apartment neighbors tend to use this handy dandy gadget, not everything can go into your garbage disposal. Remember, it's a garbage disposal, not a built-in trash can. Here is a helpful list to share with your household....
Rice and pasta
No matter how much water you run or how long you run your disposal, you can never break rice or pasta down small enough. Both these items swell in your garbage disposal when they're in contact with water. The small pieces will eventually gather in the trap and fuse your pipe shut.
Bones
Your garbage disposal isn't strong enough to break these down small enough to fit down the drain. Animal bones are the most common thing that jams garbage disposal blades.
Grease
As the grease cools, it builds up to eventually solidify and clog a portion, or all, of your drain.
Egg shells
We can put the myth to rest. Sorry, Grandma was wrong, egg shells do not sharpen disposal blades. They simply end up clogging your pipes.
